Next week, in reading, we will continue our genre study, historical fiction. They will learn about the different characteristics of the genre and choose a historical fiction novel to read in a small book group.
WRITING
Next week, students will work on their rough drafts for their Tall Tales.
As they finish, they will bring these stories to publication and later have the opportunity to create an online comic strip based on their tall tale.

This week, students have been busy brainstorming and organizing their ideas for a tall tale into a story map.
Next week, tudents will continue drafting and revising their own tall tale stories. As they finish, they will bring these stories to publication and later have the opportunity to create an online comic strip based on their tall tale.

*Testing the strength of an electromagnet

Last week, in reading, students seemed to be enjoying our genre study, Tall Tales. This week, we will continue to recognize the characteristics of a Tall Tale including hyperboles (exaggerations), humor, and historical fiction. Students will then have an opportunity to choose other tall tales to read independently this week, and analyze how they follow the patterns that are characteristic of all Tall Tales.
